The company ADMITTED THEIR ERROR ON THE RECORD, and over one year later, STILL refuses to return the funds. As a veteran and a local small business owner, I have to insist everyone avoid this place. I remain willing to remove this post once the company returns the funds (over $400.00). 03 July 2025: Refreshing post. Company accidentally charged me for a storage unit after I cancelled service on time, admitted their error on the record, and over one year later, STILL refuses to return funds. 26 June 2025: Here we are, an entire year later. I ended the lease with my unit, on time, and the company accidentally charged me for an additional month. They still have not refunded me for over $400.00, despite being aware of the issue. I emailed this company at the suggested email address in the “owner response” multiple times – no response. It is clear they are not concerned about doing the right thing. I am still willing to alter this post once I am reimbursed what is due to me. I may go ahead and leave this response under every local Self Storage Plus location. If you’re reading this post, understand that this place is run by scam artists and divert your business elsewhere. I am a local business owner and veteran and do not take joy in writing such a derogatory review about a business; hopefully this will continue to save unsuspecting locals from becoming scammed. I’d be very interested to learn who owns this branch, so I understand what type of person it takes to conduct business this way. 08 April 2025: No outreach from management to resolve issues – no response when sending email to provided address – refreshing post – do not do business with these crooks. 15 DEC 2024: No progress in resolving unauthorized charge. Management does not respond to the email address that they provided. It should be known that business owners and managers are notified each time a google review is updated – this management team chooses to ignore valid complaints and thereby accepts unethical business practices. Refunding $421 is a small price to pay to do the right thing as a local business. 11 Oct 2024: No progress in resolving unauthorized charge. Management does not respond to the email address that they gave me. 17 Sep 2024: Unauthorized charge to credit card – still no contact from management. 09 Sep 2024: Unauthorized charge to credit card. No response from management after over three weeks. Five total emails have now been sent to the email address specified below by management. 03 Sep 2024: Unauthorized charge to credit card. No response from management after over two weeks. Four total emails have now been sent to the email address specified below by management. 28 Aug 2024: No response from management after ten days. 25 Aug 2024: I wrote to management about one week ago as prompted below, but I still have not heard back. I sent another email today to follow up. 17 Aug 2024: I originally wrote a 5 star review about this place that commended a manager named Chris. I stand by my opinion that Chris was a solid manager, but I am not sure Chris is employed here anymore. When I moved out of my storage unit, I emailed and called management days in advance to let them know that I no longer required storage and was moving out. Despite moving out on time, my credit card on file was still charged for an additional month. The manager on site assured me that I would receive a refund, but left me a message today telling me that I would not receive a refund. So in a nutshell, this business made an unauthorized transaction on my credit card and refused to return my money ($421.00 USD). I am amazed that a business would operate this way in 2024. I have not decided whether I have the energy to further pursue this. I certainly have the energy to ensure this post remains at the top of this business’ reviews feed.

Worse than terrible customer service. It has been impossible to get the access code to our newly assigned storage unit at the Mosby property in Chantilly VA. It was left blank on the introduction letter (see pic 1) sent after signing the contract. There is no staff on site as the office has been abandoned and there is a hand written note saying that you need to go to another satellite location for service. The main gate is broken and open 24-7 so that code is useless. I’ve called 3 times to the number on the contract only to be routed to a call center in India that says that I have to resolve the issue with the local office, and patched me through only to wind up in voice mail. None of my messages have yet to be returned. I subsequently found out that the local office is closed on Sundays and Tuesdays, but that information was not in the contract nor introduction letter. I also have tried unsuccessfully to submit my proof of insurance to avoid the 40% up charge, but have yet to receive confirmation of receipt of my emails on that issue. Update: Management asked me to reach out in response to this posting, so I did on 06/16/25, and guess what happened? NOTHING, NADA, ZILCH … still waiting for a response…. If I could assign a ZERO star, I would, but I’ll give 1 star to make this post and confirm that the storage unit actually exists. But beware of cheap, self storage as it means exactly what it says: you are on your own! You will be charged for insurance, which effectively doubles the cheap introductory rate, even if you are already covered under your homeowner/renter/RV policy. The agent on the phone will promise that you will be reimbursed upon presentation of your insurance coverage to the site manager. The site manager will deny that. The site manager’s supervisor will also deny that and say that the sales agent shouldn’t have told you that there was a refund policy. Don’t bother calling as all calls to all their listed numbers go to an overseas call center who will refer you back to the site manager. So go in person, and don’t let them entrap you in their insurance scheme.

Here at 6:10am, facility is locked with no way to get inside even though the posted access hours are from 6am to 10pm. I had to drive over an hour round trip to get here so I’m pretty furious. Now I’m stuck with no idea when it will open, and this was the only time I could do this with regards to my work schedule. Staff is almost impossible to connect to, and there’s no emergency number to report that their building is closed when it’s not supposed to be. We’ll never use this company again.

I’m going straight to the point. This year alone, Self Storage Plus has increased the price twice, and the second time without any warning. Before March of this year I was paying $197 for my unit, in March of 2024 they increased the. price to $242, and now in October without warning they increased the price of the same unit to $307! This is a price increase of 55.08%! Are you kidding me? I’m sure this has nothing to do with inflation, and more to do with predatory business practices. And to put the icing on the cake, a lot of elevators aren’t working, and some of the doors don’t open either. And did I mention that there’s no bathroom on the premisses? I will report Self Storage Plus to the BBB.

I have nothing good to say about this facility. The elevators and doors are broken 50% of the time, and several times we were unable to access our units – once we arrived with a full rental truck and the elevators were broken (again, both) so we had to take our things to a different company’s facility. We vacated our second floor unit after that experience. We recently received less than 3 weeks notice that our rent on our remaining unit would be increased 65%, so we scheduled and completed our move out. However, the folks at the facility did not / will not confirm the vacated unit, so I was charged (despite having canceled auto-pay.) No one from the facility has responded to my calls or refunded the money, likely because it’s rarely staffed. Honestly, it’s shady and poorly maintained, and ridiculously expensive. Here’s our empty unit.

The main gate to the facility has been inoperable for more than 4 months so no sense of security whatsoever. There is a sliding door that is directly by one of the interior elevators that has been out of service for 3 months causing a huge inconvenience for anyone that has a unit first floor by that door or on the upper levels. Beware of the bait and switch. They offer great online rates, plus a first month free (or 30% off) but then 6 months later, jack your rate up 25-30% with no warning. From what I have seen, this is a typical tactic with every storage place in the local area. Just something to be aware of for the unknowing future customers.
