I was in dire need of a storage unit & I came across this place online. They seemed to have the best prices, compared to the others, so I came in to ask a few questions & see about a unit. Jackie was so helpful & explained everything I needed to know. She even walked me through & showed me the different sizes I was looking for. She talked me into a bigger unit, being I didn’t know exactly what size I needed. She said it’s better to have more space than less. Which she is correct. I love that the units are inside, with climate control & they are very clean. I am so grateful for Jackie & I’m glad I made the decision to go with Self Storage Plus.

I chose to relocate all of our storage from a competitor (which is increasing prices for their own pockets with ridiculous excuses) to Self Storage Plus due to starting costs and the customer service received as I questioned opening the account. The answers received were very clear, found in my contract, and removed the stress I’ll have on a monthly storage bill for my personal items.

Self Storage Plus at Rivermill is nice new facility. The manager Brian is wonderful. He has gone above and beyond helping me with renting multiple storage units ( a total of 4) , answering all my questions ( I call all the time), and giving me suggestions on making things a lot easier for my move. ( A.K.A. therapy secession). Moving is so stressful. It is so refreshing to have a kind person willing to help me. Brian is the “bestest”! I definitely recommend Self Storage Plus. Stacey Rowe ?

Only loses a star because of how few courtesy carts there are. Overall I’m very pleased with my experience here. The price is the best in this area the facility is clean, no pest droppings, and a notion detector light inside the unit which is a very nice touch. The staff were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I’m pleased so far with my experience, just wish for carts to be more plentiful so I don’t have to hunt a single one down. That could also be a customer caused issue, but still frustrating.

Michelle is wonderful and a pleasure to work with. I only have two complaints. One is not enough carts at each door. Should be two at each door for multiple people being there at the same time. Second is the insurance that is offered is inadequate. Need to offer better insurance especially if we have to pay for it. You have a wonderful facility and a wonderful manager. Just step up and give us the tools to make this experience an easy as possible.

In July of 2024, I moved here from another company’s storage facility that I had been at for years. I really wanted to see how this new storage facility would be and the prices were about the same. The facility is very clean, access to the property and building is very secure and it was easy to go through the process of renting and moving into a unit. All seemed well until I saw an extra charge on the next month’s bill when I logged in online to make my 1st payment. (I’ll also mentioned here that the website is not the most user friendly that I have seen) I spoke to someone at the location on the phone and they didn’t know what it was for and said I would have to call the corporate office and have them explain it. When I called the corporate office, they said the charge was for making an online payment and that it was a normal thing. I explained that this was never mentioned during the process of getting the unit and I have never had to pay an extra charge for online payments at any other storage company. They said it could be avoided by setting up auto payments, so that is what I did. (No need to worry about the website now) The next surprise occurred yesterday, 3/6/25, when I saw that my rate was increased without notice. I have not been able to check my email for the last couple of weeks so I had not looked at the invoice they emailed to know that an increase would be forthcoming. When I called the local facility’s phone number, I couldn’t get any one at that office. There wasn’t even an option to speak to someone at the local office like there was a few months ago. I spoke to someone in customer service and there was so much noise, talking and laughing in the background I could barely hear them. They said a letter was mailed to me in the beginning of February but I never received a letter. At the other storage facility, I always got a letter and email a couple of months in advance to give me time to find another place to move to if I chose. Here, I got one letter, sent a month in advance, that never arrived and after explaining that and asking if anything could be done, I was basically told the letter was sent and that was that. I really like the facility itself (never actually met or saw anyone at the location in person) and would like to stay but the communication, customer service and overall administrative side really needs improvement. Take that for what it’s worth and consider it if you are looking to come here. Maybe it will be different for you.

After being asked almost immediately upon booking a storage space to leave a review., Now after a few weeks I’ll leave one. The facility is brand new so it is clean and apparently well maintained. There is a limited amount of carts available which is challenging. Also they need to school their staff on proper etiquette. With only three parking spots in the front and your employees truck takes up one of them is not good business practice. The professionalism there is lacking. Calling people sweetie and honey and taking extended smoke breaks is also not good customer service.

Hit or miss with staff, we’ve had a couple good interactions but when we first were signing up we seemed to be an inconvenience to the front desk and the lady was very short tempered and annoyed as soon as we walked in. Clean facility, but there are rarely carts to help with your larger items so be prepared to lug you things down long hallways. HIDDEN FEES will get you too. Advertised online as one price, required insurance increases that price considerably and then after 6 months the price goes up again. This is probably in the fine print somewhere but it would be nice to know before renting that your price WILL go up, seems a bit dishonest and predatory to not have that info anywhere during the checkout process.

Nice, clean facility, and safe for your personal gear. What I do not like is these people bring you in on a free month and raise your rental storage price more than $10.00 within a year’s time. 6 months I’m paying $56.00 now. I was paying $48.00 with insurance. So ,I’m still going to stay and deal with this sneaky price increase, but readers beware that you are only getting a temporary reduced price on your monthly storage cost.

Predatory business, within 5 months they increased my rent from $139 to $239. According to the lease agreement they can “Increase rent with 30 days notice”, I never received any notice. AVOID THIS BUSINESS AT ALL COSTS, their “low cost” units are only there to suck you in and then trap you while you are away on military orders. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT get entrapped by them!!! Find a different company to store your things, and I will never be using self storage ever again. EDIT: Business is absolutely predatory, claims they sent notice via mail 5/2/25, complete fabrication, contract says that since I provided an email all notices including rent increases will use email, I’m signed up for paperless, and all communication and invoices have been through email up to the point they try to doggedly send a rent increase. Avoid this disgusting filthy business at all cost

I believe this place to be a scam, with predatory price increases not determined by time spent or on a yearly basis but simply when they search the algorithm to see what current market values are, I have had many storage units of various sizes all over the Richmond VA area and would absolutely recommend reading the contract very carefully. I also have found the customer service here to be not great. From the first time I went to see my unit I was looked at and harassed as if I wasn’t supposed to be there.
